It's Twofer Tuesday (or not)
I'd make some comment about how radio stations did this back when they played music, but I think they still do. At least I think I heard guitarbassdrumssinging when I tuned into terrestrial radio when the satellite dropped last weekend.
There may also be some running commentary about the Sugar Bowl game which is going on now. Go Pigs!
In/Humanity - unknown song
Darius Rucker is doing the national anthem and this Columbia, SC band once shared a compilation with Hootie and the Blowfish (or so the legend goes, I'm not in the mood to try to locate backup)
Devo - "Gates of Steel"
Representing the Buckeye State. I know Akron is about two hours or so from Columbus but perhaps I'll pull out some New Bomb Turks in a few.
Econochrist - "Treadmill"
There isn't much from Arkansas, though Econochrist operated in a similar scene to In/Humanity in the early 1990s. Ironically enough, the wikipedia page for music of Arkansas mentions an insurgent christiancore scene.
New Bomb Turks - "Job"
Cover of a punk obscurity (the Nubs, from 1979) from Columbus' finest.
John Coltrane & Pharoah Sanders - "Ascension (bits)"
That aforementioned wikipedia page tells me this jazz great was born in Little Rock. One of the most enduring free jazz pieces.
Kenny Rogers & the First Edition - "Just Dropped in (to See What Condition my Condition Was In)"
Happy Birthday, Jeff Bridges!
Gerry Rafferty - "Baker Street"
R.I.P. Gerry. I'll leave it to Al to find his third-best known song.
Running count: 27 songs for 2011.
